My name is Isaac. I was born in Taiwan but raised up to the age of ten in America. I have a strong command of both English and Chinese, and despite having been raised in Taiwan's Chinese education system and landing an undergrad at National Taiwan University, my English still trumps my Chinese. My Chinese to English translations have been published through Business Wire, and have been directly and indirectly quoted by Bloomberg, Reuters and other media platforms. I have also interpreted for Dr. Stephen Tong.
I have a major interest in philosophy and the natural sciences, particularly Physics, even though I landed a major in Chemistry. I've also done Chinese (Traditional) - English translation (both ways) since graduating high school (2012) and am experienced in hunting down the exact glossary for a term (concept-to-word) and studying a subject ad-hoc to make sure the sense of the word is accurate (word-to-concept). I maintain my sensitivity to context when deciding to translate sense-for-sense or word-for-word (with comments if appropriate).
I type fairly fast. I consider myself to be well-invested in languages, having learned the grammar, inflections and vocabulary of at least 5 other languages. I am currently concentrating on Japanese (which I find to be rather beautiful and exotic), while giving Dutch a go as well. I plan to use these languages (German, French, Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Aramaic) for future theology-related academic work. I also interpret fairly fast (near-immediate speed even in consecutive translation) and ensure that all the elements of interpretation are dealt with--even the emotional tone, slang and manner of speech.
In my free time, I enjoy playing piano, dance, practice magic tricks at an amateurish level, read hard-science fiction, and enjoy conversations with friends and strangers.
